Abhishek Banerjee lands at Kolkata Airport to appear before CID
A major controversy has erupted in Hinchaberia in Sarisha, Diamond Harbour, after a large quantity of medicines bearing the Sebaashray logo was recovered from beneath the ground. The medicines were unearthed during excavation work carried out with earth-moving equipment on Wednesday. Allegations have surfaced that the recovered stock is worth several crores of rupees, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances under which the medicines were buried.
According to available information, the medicines were discovered after land was dug up using JCB machines in the area. Following the recovery, questions were raised about the origin, storage and disposal of the medicines. Authorities have begun examining whether the medicines had expired and are investigating why they had been buried underground.
The BJP alleged that medicines intended for Sebaashray camps had been siphoned off and concealed. The party claimed that a significant quantity of the recovered medicines remained within their validity period and alleged that they were buried to hide irregularities. The BJP also directed allegations at Magrahat West MLA Shamim Ahmed in connection with the matter.
The Trinamool Congress rejected the allegations and maintained that there was no corruption involved. Party leaders stated that the recovered medicines had already expired. They denied the accusations made by the BJP and disputed claims regarding the value and condition of the medicines recovered from the site.
Sebaashray camps were launched across all seven Assembly constituencies of Diamond Harbour under the initiative of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The camps provided free medical consultations, health check-ups and medicines to residents. The programme was later expanded to other regions. Police are continuing their investigation into the recovery and the circumstances surrounding the burial of the medicines.
